The coin's reverse depicts two horses, gilded in 24-carat gold, standing in a stylised landscape displaying trees, rockery and a river. In Chinese culture, gold is said to symbolise wealth and happiness.The delicate artistry is complemented by the Chinese character for ‘horse’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Horse’. The Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mintmark also appears in the design.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, each coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2014 year-date and the monetary denomination on the obverse of each coin.
Each coin and set is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
