The last silver coin in the world produced for general circulation!
The French 50 Franc “Hercules” was the last attempt at making a silver coin for circulation. Struck for only six years, from 1974-1979, the French 50 Franc Hercules was VERY well received by the public. So well received, in fact, that no one actually used the coins for currency, they were all hoarded!
When silver spiked in the early 1980s, it is estimated that over 80% of all the French 50 Franc Hercules ever produced were melted down!
THERE HAVE ONLY BEEN 28 COINS EVER CERTIFIED IN MS64
